Meet Trayton

Imagine this: your son has cancer. You have a baby on the way. The only available treatment is in Vancouver, and it will take months. You have two hours to pack.

The hardest thing?
being away from home and my other little boy”

This was the unthinkable reality for mom Bailey Thompson from Dawson Creek when her 8-year-old son Trayton was diagnosed with brain cancer.

Trayton and Bailey have been in Vancouver since November 2015, accompanied by 2-year-old Addison and 2-month-old Annabelle, who was born in Vancouver while the family was staying at Ronald McDonald House. Trayton has undergone two months of chemotherapy and then radiation daily for 7 weeks, but still goes through each day with a smile. A typical day for the family means a quick breakfast, then walking to the hospital for a full day of checkups and treatment.

For Bailey, the best part of staying at Ronald McDonald House is having space for her children to play. When the family first arrived in Vancouver, they stayed in the hospital for 3 weeks, and briefly stayed in a hotel, and staying at the House has given them space to be kids again. Trayton loves playing video games on our comfy couches, while Addison enjoys the LEGO room and doing crafts with volunteers.

The hardest thing? “Being away from home and my other little boy,” Trayton’s brother who is continuing kindergarten back home in Dawson Creek.
